In astrology, when a horoscope is analyzed the aspects come into play and they are divided as major and minor aspects depending upon the influence between the planets under study. The trine, square, opposition and conjunction are termed as major aspects. The minor aspects are those which are less frequently used in horoscope analysis. Though called as minor they play a vital role in chart analysis and hold key information about a person or situation as the study proceeds.

Every natal chart is unique in its own sense much as the individual and the aspects exhibited therein interpret the standing of the native. The minor aspects between the planets indicate the minute dynamic details pertaining to the transiting planets.

Minor Aspects

The minor aspects are semisextile, the semisquare, the sesquisquare, the quintile, the biquintile, and the quincunx. Some of these aspects are more meaningful, some less, but they provide additional insight into astrological chart studies.

Minor aspects are generally not much used by astrologers in their studies. If at all they use, they allow a small orb of about 2 to 3 degrees. Angles and planets can also form minor aspects. These minor aspects are much hard to notice in a chart, however trained astrologers locate them easily. They pay attention to the signs and houses of the planets involved in a minor aspect.

Quincunx Quincunx or In-conjunct in Astrology

The quincunx is the most important one among the minor aspects. This aspect is also called the in-conjunct. Though it is a minor aspect, we cannot simply overlook it, as it would cause a big mistake in chart analysis. This is a very challenging aspects where the planets would be at odds with each other. There would be constant friction when two planets are involved in the aspect. It causes much frustration for the native.

This Quincunx aspect consists of two planets located 150 degrees apart. There would be no common ground and the planets would differ in modality, element and polarity. A planet posited in the house of Leo would be in Quincunx aspect with a planet posited in the sign of Pisces. This aspect causes much stress and asks for adjustments or compromises on our part. Constant work would be needed to stay afloat as the planets do not know how to deal with each other. This aspect is widely used in medical astrology. A quincunx is involved in a yod which consists of a sextile and two quincunx or in-conjuncts.

Semi-square Semi-square in Astrology

The semi-square is also a minor aspect where the angle between the planets under study would be 45 degrees. An orb of about 1 to 2 degrees is allowed. Semi-square is half of square and this aspect means stress and friction much similar to a square aspect which is a major aspect. However a semi-square would be less intense when compared to a square aspect. The effect does not linger on for long and it holds ground for growth.

A semi-square has to do with events that are external to us. It indicates sudden, unpredicted changes or a tough decision we ought to make in life. In a positive sense, a semi-square is an aspect that helps you to grow well under some pressure.

Sesqui-quadrate Sesqui-quadrate in Astrology This is another minor aspect between two planets which are 135 degrees apart from each other. It was first introduced by Johannes Kepler. This aspect also indicates frustration and challenges. A sesqui-quadrate is one and a half square and an orb of 1 or 3 degrees is considered here. This aspect is also called as tri-octile. In other words a sesqui-quadrate consists of a square and sesqui-square. This is a very intense and dynamic aspect found in a chart. It asks you to take action in a positive sense and won’t let you until your learn life lessons, the hard way.

Semi-sextile Semi-sextile in Astrology Two planets form a semi-sextile aspect if the angle between them is 30 degrees. The allowed orb is about 1-2 degrees. Here, the planets are in neighboring signs. This also means that they don’t see each other despite being neighbors . This is the same as in the case of the quincunx. A semi-sextile aspect between two planets indicate friction but in a subtle sense.

Quintile Quintile in Astrology The quintile is the fifth harmonic (the division of the circle by five). This is another aspect introduced by Johannes Kepler. This aspect is exhibited when two planets are located 72 degrees from each other. Here the orb allowed is 1 to 2 degrees. This indicates a harmonious flow of energy between the two planets involved. This is one minor aspect that has to do with our talents and creativity. If you have a quintile aspect in your natal chart, it indicates that you are being gifted with some nice talents worth honing.

Bi-quintileBi-quintile in Astrology Bi means two in Latin, and biquintile aspect indicates the combination of two quintiles, that is the planets are 144 degrees from each other. Again the orb allowed here would be 1 to 2 degrees only. Biquintiles might form a golden yod in the chart, which consists of two biquintiles and a quintile. The biquintile also has to do with talents and innate creative ability. The biquintile tends to showt on a mental, psychological level. Like the quintile, the biquintile’s meaning would be positive.
